Graphic and Interactive Design (2014-2015)
The Graphic and Interactive Design program offers training for careers in the exciting, dynamic fields of graphic design, design for the web, multimedia, illustration and digital publishing. Students enrolled in this program develop basic and advanced skills in the important traditional processes of layout, design and drawing while cultivating proficiencies in the leading-edge digital graphics technologies. Students receive a balance of instruction that includes traditional, computer and general education courses that are designed to produce a well-rounded, highly-trained graduate with sufficient expertise to be employable in an ever-expanding job market. Internships, student aid positions and on-the-job training opportunities are available to qualified students who are enrolled in the program. Program Learning Outcomes
• Students will master the design process from sketching to the production of finished graphic designs.
• Students will create unique graphic designs that communicate effectively in contemporary media.
• Students will be trained in industry standard software.
• Student will produce a professional portfolio and will be prepared to enter the workforce.
 
Career Opportunities
Career opportunities include the following: graphic design, print design, interactive design, advertising, marketing, publishing, illustration, graphic arts production, digital and traditional printmaking, cartooning, and fine art.

Associate Degree Requirements:
• English proficiency: ENGL 1A, 1AH, 1S & 1T, ESLL 26 or equivalent.
• Mathematics proficiency: MATH 57, 105, 108 or equivalent.
A minimum of 90 units is required* to include:
• Completion of one of the following general education patterns: Foothill General Education, CSU General Education Breadth Requirements or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)
• Core courses (42 units)
• Support courses (16 units)

*Additional elective course work may be necessary to meet the 90-unit minimum requirement for the associate degree.

NOTE: All courses pertaining to the major must be taken for a letter grade. In addition, a GPA of 2.0 or higher is required in all core and support courses for the degree or certificates.
