Fourth Annual Drag Show
This year's gender-bending extravaganza will feature both male impersonators (drag kings) and female impersonators (drag queens) in a traditional lip-synching pageant of passion. If you've only seen drag performers in hit films such as Priscilla Queen of the Desert, To Wong Foo, Torch Song Trilogy or The Birdcage, this is your chance to experience these fabulous illusionists live and in person.

Keynote Speaker: Samina Ali

Former Foothill English Instructor Samina Ali is the first Muslim American woman to publish a major novel in the United States. Her award-winning debut novel, Madras on Rainy Days, addresses the controversial issue of homosexuality in Muslim India from the perspective of a young straight woman forced into an arranged marriage with a closeted gay man. Discussion facilitated by students enrolled in Foothill speech communication classes.

ONGOING EXHIBITS & DISPLAYS

AIDS/Bashing Graveyard—This outdoor exhibit was conceived and designed by Foothill’s Gay/Straight Alliance in memory of individuals who have been murdered due to their sexual identity (“bashed”) as well as those who have committed suicide due to discrimination and despair; and those who have died of AIDS. This year, a special dedication will be presented for Gwen Araujo, a transgender teen who was brutally murdered in Newark, CA, in 2002.

MASK Project—In cooperation with the Foothill Art Department and Gay/Straight Alliance, students are invited to create unique individual masks—an art form which both conceals and reveals true identity.
