MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT

Mathematics Department

Mathematics and related subjects play important dual roles in our culture. On the one hand, mathematics is a study in its own right; on the other hand it is an indispensable tool for expressing and understanding ideas in the sciences, engineering, and an increasing number of other fields.

Employment opportunities for persons with training in mathematics are increasing! The courses offered in Foothill College's Department of Mathematics are designed to develop the skills and competencies that not only support the skill areas needed in engineering, physical and biological sciences, but also satisfy the necessary course requirements for the first two years of baccalaureate programs.

Course Highlights for Winter 2016

Foothill is participating in an exciting program that allows students who are Liberal Arts or Social Science majors to move through elementary algebra to complete a transferable Statistics course in two quarters! The two courses, Math 217 and Math 57, are different approaches to the way elementary algebra and Statistics have been traditionally taught. Math 57 is NOW both UC and CSU transferable!
