Rita Wong has taught at Foothill College for 21 years and has just retired from full-time teaching. Prior to that, she taught at San Francisco State University, the University of California and the University of Michigan. She has conducted workshops for teachers in the U.S., Canada, Central and South America, Asia, Africa and Europe and has served on the boards of state and international ESL organizations. She is a past president of the California Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages.Personal Quote:
Rita Wong has an MA in Linguistics with a specialization in second language acquisition from the University of Michigan. Before coming to Foothill in 1991, she taught at the University of Michigan, the University of California, Berkeley, and San Francisco State University. She has been a teacher consultant for the Bay Area Writing Project, a teacher trainer in the U.S., Canada, Hungary, Thailand, South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Venezuela, Brazil and Honduras. She has served as the president of the California Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, as a director of the Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, and as a member of the English Teaching Advisory Panel of the United States Information Agency. She is the author of a teachers' reference book on the teaching of pronunciation and is in the process of completing a student textbook on grammar.
