Guidelines for High School, ROP and Adult Education Teachers and Administrators

In order for students to have either noncredit articulated courses or Credit by Examination articulated courses placed on their college transcript it is required that these courses be articulated between each High School, ROP or Adult Education program and Foothill College. This articulation is on a course by course basis.

California Education Code places responsibility for approval with the college faculty in that discipline. In order to determine if your courses are appropriate for articulation with a Foothill College course you will need to work collaboratively with Foothill College faculty.

Articulating your course(s) consists of two parts. Below are the steps for each part to articulate your course with Foothill College:

Part 1: Request

  1. Consult with your High School/ROP/Adult Education colleagues to determine the following:
    • Review the Foothill College Catalog at http://www.foothill.edu/schedule/catalog.php
    • Does your course appear comparable to the Foothill College course?
    • Are there valid reasons to pursue articulation for this particular course?
    • Is your course outline detailed and current with the Foothill College course?
    • Is there an instructor available who has the time and desire to work through the collegial consultation and approval process?
  2. Print a copy of the Request for Consideration of Articulation of High School/ROP/Adult Education Course form.
  3. Fill in all of the information required on the form.
  4. Attach a copy of the current outline and final assessment.
  5. Attain the required signatures.
  6. Send all of the above to:
    Alexandra Duran, M.A.
Program Director, College & Career Connections
    Foothill College Middlefield Campus
    4000 Middlefield Road, Suite I-1
    Palo Alto, CA 94303
    Phone: (650) 949-6973
    Fax: (650) 949-6979

Note: Be sure to make a copy of the application form for your own records!

Your request will be forwarded to the faculty and dean of the appropriate discipline. You will be contacted for preliminary discussion. If the course is deemed appropriate for either category, the process moves to Part 2: Agreement. Part 2: Agreement
When your request is approved proceed with the steps below:

  1. Print a copy of the HS/ROP/Adult Education Articulation Agreement form.
  2. Fill in all of the information required on the form.
  3. Attach a copy of required documentation.
  4. Attain the required signatures.
  5. Send the form to:
    Alexandra Duran, M.A.
Program Director, College & Career Connections
    Foothill College Middlefield Campus
    4000 Middlefield Road, Suite I-1
    Palo Alto, CA 94303
    Phone: (650) 949-6973
    Fax: (650) 949-6979

Note: Be sure to make a copy of the application form for your own records!

When all college level approvals are completed, we will send you a copy of the final approved agreement. We will then list the articulated course on the Academic Senate's Statewide Career Pathways site, http://www.statewidepathways.org/.
